Biography

Second son of Samuel Barrett (1765-1794) and Elizabeth Barrett Waite (1754-1834). Member of Assembly for St James 1815-1819 and 1826-1839 and for Trelawney 1922-1824. Married Elizabeth Barrett Morris (1791-1860), daughter of Philip Anglin Morris and his wife Amelia Barett Waite. They had a daughter, Elizabeth (1812-1825). Richard Barrett also acknowledged an illegitimate daughter Emily Barrett, whose mother was Emily Gaynor. Died at Montego Bay 18/05/1839, buried at Cinnamon Hill. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'slave-owner and politician.'
