23rd May 1788 - 1824
Samuel Barrett, son of Samuel Barrett and Elizabeth Barrett Williams nee Waite. Born 23/05/1788 and baptised 18/09/1788 in Marylebone, London.
Will of Samuel Barrett of Park Hill Yorkshire proved 09/12/1824. In his will he left his widow Margaret Gillies his carriage, horses etc. and £1000. He said that he had some time since arranged to purchase the equity of redemption in the Shawfield estate in Jamaica, and he left Shawfield, his sugar works called the Spring (subject to an annuity of £1200 p.a. to his wife and £6000 to be raised as portions for his daughter and younger sons) and his pen called Thatchfield in trust to pay his wife an annuity of £300 p.a. over and above the amount already settled in her; an annuity of £200 p.a. to his mother Elizabeth Barrett Williams; and an annuity to his aunt Mary Barrett Lockhead [?] wife of John Lockhead. There was, he said, £22535 4s 4d standing in the name of trustees for his children. In a codicil made in 1823 in Boulogne, he scaled back some of his monetary legacies because of the state of the West India colonies and appointed Laurence Oliphant of Conday in North Britain [who later married his widow] as an additional trustee and executor.
His son, Samuel Goodin Barrett, died of Heighington House Co. Durham in 1876 leaving under £8000 in Britain.
