Biography

Thomas Howey, husband of Mary Ann Howey (q.v.), who inherited a share of Berwick Estate, Port Royal, from his father-in-law Ralph Gilroy.

  1. Born in England. Married Mary Ann Gilroy, daughter of Ralph Gilroy, in 1828. In the 1841 census at Lilburn Grange, Northumberland, age 35, "Farmer". 1851 census: as Thomas Houey, Bridge Castle Torphichen, West Lothian, age 49, "Railway Agent". 1861 census: 13 Gilmore Place, Edinburgh, aged 59, "Commerical Traveller Brewery". Newcastle Courant, 1862: "Thomas Howey, late of Lilburn Grange and Akeld, died aged 62." Living with his wife, their children, and his sister-in-law Sarah Marshall (q.v.) in the 1851 census.
