Inherited a one third share of Shrewsbury estate in Portland, Jamaica, on the death of her father George Harrison Cosens in 1817. Baptised in Marylebone, 27/12/1789. Ellen, eldest daughter of the late Geo. Harrison Cosens esq., of Jamaica, married Rev. Fred. Russell 12/02/1829. Rev. Frederick Russell was a preacher at Southampton St Michael (07/04/1831), Stipendiary Curate in Romsey, 12/09/1832 and Stipendiary Curate in Holy Trinity chapel, Southampton St Mary, 14/08/1834. At Trinity Place, Black Wall, Halifax in the census of 1841. In 1851 Ellen Russell aged 48 born London was living at 6 Rockstone Terrace Southampton with her husband the Rev. Frederick Russell aged 47. The will of Ellen Russell heretofore Cosens wife of Halifax Yorkshire was proved 15/02/1855.

PROB 11/2207/115 - precis. Ellen Russell wife of Rev. Frederick Russell of Trinity Parsonage, Halifax. By virtue of my marriage settlement, on failure of issue it is left for me to appoint all or any part of £5,000 in three per cent annuities of the Bank of England in the names of trustees subject to the life interest of my husband. This £5,000 and all rest and residue of my estate to my dear sister Jane Mary Cosens. To Mary Ellen Lane, daughter of the late Major Henry Bowyer Lane and Jane his wife, and also to my godson Latymer George Crosse, son of Thos. Crosse, £100 each. My sister to be executrix.
