Son of George Harrison Cosens and his first wife Thomasin. Inherited a one third share of Shrewsbury estate in Portland, Jamaica, on the death of his father in 1817.
Will of Robert Cosens of Kames near Coldstream North Britain [made 1837] proved 23/10/1841. He left his interest in the Carlton Woodhouse and Markham Hall estates and the service of the apprentices attached to them in trust for his children.
There is a memorial erected by Mrs Elizabeth Weir in memory of her husband Robert Cosens who died 04/07/1841 aged 30 in Eccles Kirkyard.
Although his will was generic, Robert Cosens of Kames left property in New South Wales that in 1845 was the subject of probate and advertisements for claimants.
