"Merchant in Glasgow and Jamaica." Second son of William Cunninghame, 8th of Craigends, and his second wife Christian, daughter of Sir John Colquhoun of Luss. Married Martha Robson, one daughter, Margaret. Married secondly Agnes Campbell, sister of Sir James Campbell. Through his second wife he inherited a share of Grandvale estate in Jamacia (her brother Sir James Campbell, who died in 1731, had owned the estate). Deceased by the time of his daughter Margaret's marriage in 1755.
William's daughter Margaret married her first cousin William Cuninghame, 10th of Craigends, who had inherited the remaining share in Grandvale through his father's second wife Katherine Campbell (Katherine was another sister of Sir James Campbell of Grandvale).
