The third of four daughters of George Leslie, a merchant in Aberdeen, and his wife Katharine nee Irvine. The daughters were the heirs of their maternal uncle Dr Charles Irvine who co-owned Friendship estate in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica. Married John Henderson at St Nicholas's, Aberdeen, 04/10/1789. Two sons baptised in the same place: Charles in 1791 and William Irvine in 1792.

Dr John Irvine late of Jamaica and Baillie George Auldjo[?] merchant in Aberdeen."
