Sarah Pownall

1. Born 22/10/1817 in Jamaica, the reputed daughter of James Corne Pownall by "free mulatto" Sarah Watt. Inherited a share in Silver Hill estate in St Andrew, Jamaica, in trust with her six siblings and six of her first cousins, on the death of his father in 1824. Her father's will stipulated that his daughters would forfeit their inheritance if any of them returned to Jamaica unless with husbands.

2. Living at 2 Adelaide Villas, Clevedon, Somerset, in 1841, age 20, of independent means, with her sister Jane L., age 25. With her sister Isabella at 5 Ainslies Belvidere, Walcott, Bath, in 1851. A visitor at 14 Clarendon Terrace, Hampstead, in 1861. A visitor again at Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1871. Not located in 1881. A lodger at 33 Artesian Road, Paddington, in 1891. The will of Sarah Pownall, spinster of 53 Northumberland Place, Bayswater, who died 28/08/1898, was proved in London by Emily Edith Jones, her niece, effects £2,881 10s 5d.
