1752 - 1803
Son of Ralph Payne Chief Justice of St Kitts. His father's will has not been located by LBS, but it seems that the family's slave-property passed to his older half-brother and to his full brothers. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'naval officer and royal official.' In his will proved 12/12/1803 he explained that he had little property, singling out a debt of £4000 owed to him by his brother [in fact half-brother] Lord Lavington (q.v., under Ralph Payne 1st Baron Lavington), which he forgave on condition that Lavington paid out some minor monetary legacies to John Willett Payne's servants. His residuary heirs were his full siblings.
