Milborough Crewe (née Alpress)

???? - 1803

Biography

Mother of Rev. Willoughby Crewe, John Frederick Crewe and Richard Crewe jun.; daughter of Hon. Samuel Alpress; and wife of Richard Crewe (each of whom q.v.). Richard Crewe successfully brought a suit against Sir Henry Charles Englefield in 1799-1800 for 'criminal conversation' with his wife Milborough and sought a divorce from her in the House of Lords in 1802. Genealogical material online consistently points to her dying the following year, in 1803, but LBS has not verified this.

  1. She appears as 'Milburgh Allpress' in the ODNB entry for Sir Henry Charles Englefield, which also gives her death-date as 1803. The couple had a son, who could not inherit his father's baronetcy by reason of his illegitimacy.
