John McKenzie appeared in the compensation records with Thomas Larkins and James Steele as mortgagees or assignees of mortgages on two estates in Jamaica. No partnership has been found between them: all three men appear to have been active separately as merchants primarily with the East Indies. John McKenzie was probably the John McKenzie merchant [formerly of London] of Bombay whose will was proved 20/02/1847.
