Biography

Lewis Johnston, Canadian physician, co-awardee with his brother James William Johnston and William Bruce Almon and Mather Byles Almon, probably as executor of his brother John Johnston (all q.v.).

  1. Born in St Augustine, Florida, the second son of William Martin Johnston and his wife Elizabeth née Lichtenstein. Sent to Scotland for his education; graduated Edinburgh University in 1807. Practised medicine in Jamaica from 1808 where he took over his father's lucrative practice. Married a sister of the Revd. John Pryor; they had 16 children. Returned to Nova Scotia at some point and continued to practise medicine. Died at Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
