Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for enslaved people on Les Coteaux on Tobago and party to Chancery suits involving the estates on Tobago of his deceased father-in-law George Morison: his claim arose by virtue of his marriage to Martha Morison rather than from his own mercantile activity and he has been categorised as a rentier.

  1. Marriage of William Wyllie of St Peter Cornhill and Martha Morison, 15/08/1818 at All Saints Edmonton.

  2. William Wyllie of Castlebar Park Ealing, merchant dealer and chapman was bankrupt 1838.

  3. William Wyllie of Hoddesdon Hertfordshire was buried aged 69 at All Souls Kensal Green 22/11/1862.

  4. William Morison Wyllie, and in turn his son William L. Wyllie, were painters of some standing. William Lionel Wyllie has an entry in the ODNB.

These four items have been connected on genealogical sites but to date only the first and fourth have been definitively connected with the William Wyllie of the award.
