1764 - 1847
There were three Agnes Rous Howells: [1] Agnes Rous Howell, daughter of Nicholas Howell and Agnes Rous, whose parents married in Barbados in 1751 and who is named in the will of her maternal aunt Rebecca Carleton (written 1797, proved 1802); [2] Agnes Rous Howell, daughter of Thomas Rous Howell and Susannah, baptised 1787 in Barbados and the niece of the first Agnes Rous Howell; [3] Agnes Rous Howell, daughter of Conrade Adams Howell I and his second wife Elizabeth Thornhill nee Rock, baptised in 1816 in Barbados.
Agnes Rous Howell registered her own enslaved people in 1820, when the third ARH would have been too young. The second ARH married, in 1809, to John William Murrell, so would have been entered in her married name. Therefore the ARH in the compensation records must have been the first one, daughter of Nicholas Howell and Agnes Rous. She was buried 30/10/1847 in Barbados, aged 83 years.
