Biography

Widow of Samuel Kendall of Berbice (d. 1819), born in Antigua around 1779. It is unknown when she moved to England. Awarded part of the compensation as mortgagee on the Lonsdale estate in Berbice, and also counterclaimed and settled with Gavin Fullarton in a separate award, for Plantation Providence in British Guiana, presumably under the same mortgage as for Lonsdale

  1. Death October 1853, at 4 Circus road, St John's Wood, Eliza, relict of late Samuel Kendall of Berbice British Guiana aged 74. Samuel Kendall had died in Edinburgh in 1819.

  2. There is no apparent sign of her in the 1841 census: in 1851, Eliza Kendall widow  gentlewoman aged 72 born Antigua is a lodger at 23 Upper Gloster [sic] Place Marylebone, together with Elizabeth A. Cort 'a friend' aged 50 gentlewoman born Demerara. Will of Eliza Kendall widow of Albany Street Regents Park proved 14/11/1853. In the will she made a number of monetary legacies of in amounts of £1100, £600 and £500 and £100, which were intended to account for the bulk of her estate which was in 3% Bank stock: Elizabeth Ann Cort was her residuary legatee.
