Charles Stewart Parker

Partner in Sandbach Tinne (q.v.)

1. Son of Charles Stewart Parker (unknown -1825 sic but registered in Scottish probate 05/01/1829 and PROB 11 November 1828). The first Charles Stewart Parker left £105,893, a West Indies merchant in Glasgow. 

2. Will of Charles Stewart Parker who died 26/10/1868 at St Ann's Road Aigburth proved 18/11/1868 by Anne the widow, Charles Stuart [sic] Parker, Samuel Sandbach Parker, and Alfred Traill Parker the sons, 4 of the executors. Effects under £60,000. Death registered West Derby Q4 1868 aged 68. 

3. Charles Stewart Parker Tennent (1817-1864), the son of Hugh Tennent (1780-1864, originally a West India merchant in Midleton & Tennent then a brewer) and Christian Rainy (d. 1863), was a Glasgow brewer who left £212,892 in 1864: he was presumably named after Charles Stewart Parker the father.

4. Charles Stewart Parker's (d. 1868) oldest son Charles Stuart Parker (1829-1910) was Liberal MP for Perthshire 1868-1874 and for the City of Perth 1878-1892. He 'inherited ample means' (ODNB). At Oxford from the 1840s became associated with important liberal intellectuals, ranging from Frederic Harrison, the Positivist, to T. H. Green, and became one of the first lecturers in modern history from the 1850s. Developed a particular interest in educational reform, first of Oxford and then as a member of the public schools commission (1868–74), Author of Sir Robert Peel . . . (3 vols., 1891–9) and Life and Letters of Sir James Graham (2 vols., 1907). 

5. Charles Stewart Parker's grandson Evelyn Stuart Parker (d. 1936), also a partner in Sandbach Tinne (and grandson also of John Abraham Tinne), was responsible for the development of the island of Little Cumbrae, which he bought in 1913, rebuilding Little Cumbrae House there and commissioning a Red and Gold garden from Gertrude Jekyll. He left £295,621 4s 8d at death.
