Biography

William Ross, an absentee of Lambridge near Bath, as devisee in trust and acting executor of Robert Ross was awarded the compensation for Launcefield in St Catherine and a smaller award in St John; William Ross under the same description was also awarded the compensation for Bybrook in St Thomas-in-the-Vale. He is probably also the William Ross 'of England' who was awarded the compensation for Mahogany Grove Pen in St Andrew and almost certainly the same man as the William Ross of Bath who was awarded part of the compensation for the Richmond estate in St Mary as trustee of Oliver Hering and his wife.

  1. The William Ross [formerly of Bloomsbury Square, afterwards of Gloucester Place Portman Square and now of Lambridge in the parish] of Walcot, Somerset whose will was proved 06/10/1845 was almost certainly the William Ross, late Attorney General of Jamaica, who died in Bath 16/09/1845. Under the will, he recited his marriage settlement of 1802, under which £4000 in consols and a house and premises in Spanish Town Jamaica (since sold for £2700) were settled on his wife Catharine, and said that she had agreed to waive its provisions to allow alternative arrangements, under which he left her his house in Lambridge for life with remainder to his nephew Rev. William Hunter Ross, and an annuity of £700 p.a. for life. In a codicil of 1845, he said that William Hunter Ross had died, and made William Hunter Ross's daughter William [?] Euphemia Fanny Ross his residuary heir.
