Notes

The Lancaster plantation lay in the parishes of St James and St Thomas.
From 1674-1766 the plantation was owned by the Barwick family. In 1733-35 Samuel Barwick, who had been President of the Council in 1731 and acting Governor, died and bequeathed his plantations – Pine, The Belle and Lancaster – to his sons, William and Samuel Barwick. William of St James then sold to Samuel of St Michael, the Lancaster plantation for £12,500. The estate of 379 acres included a dwelling house, windmill and boiling house. There were 196 enslaved people.

Joseph Osborne Bruce of St. James and his wife Jane Bruce, née Barwick the only child and heir of Samuel Barwick deceased, Anthony Laroque of St. James and his wife Frances Laroque, formerly the wife of Samuel Barwick, deceased, née Adams, daughter of Conrade Adams the elder, deceased, sold to William Ford of St. Peter, merchant, for £22,475, the Lancaster plantation of 431 acres. There were 99 enslaved people.

William Ford, owner of Lancaster plantation, had incurred debts on the plantation: £382 to James Conrade Bruce et al, sons of Joseph O. Bruce; £1,017 to Robert Ewing; £2,772 to William Moore. Ford then mortgaged the estate to Thomas Daniel of Bristol to pay the debts.

John Alleyne Beckles bought the plantation in Chancery Court Sale from John Arthur Chase, one of the Masters-in-Chancery for £25,750.
