Biography

Former owner of the Bushy Park plantation in British Guiana, the compensation for which was claimed by his executors but awarded to the London and Bristol merchants John and Thomas Daniel.

  1. Robert Gibbons (1756-1805), the son of Sir John Gibbons 2nd bart and uncle of Sir John Gibbons 4th bart (q.v.). In 1808 Edward Gibbons (q.v.) as executor of Robert Gibbons, granted a mortgage on Bushy Park to Barton, Irlam & Higginson.

  2. Will of Robert Gibbons planter of Demerara proved 11/11/1814. The will was made 21/07/1805 by Robert Gibbons of Bushy Park in the colony of Demerara Esq being about to depart for the Island of Barbados. He left his estate to his brothers Sir William Gibbons Bart. of Stanwell Place and Edward Gibbons of Bath, his nephew John Gibbons Lieut Colonel, and his (the testator's) son Frederick of the Island of Barbados and gave them substantial flexibility in determining how to maintain his dear children. He made specific bequests of named enslaved people - including 'my faithful servant John Sally his wife and their child Caroline' - to his sons Frederick, Barton and Robert.
