Lieutenant Ewen Baillie Sutherland Royal Navy had by his spouse Mrs Elizabeth Baillie McKenzie a child born at Milmount in this parish baptised by the name of Evina Baillie. The child was born on the 19th October last. Witnesses Mrs McKenzie & Miss McKenzie, Milmount. Baptised 26/01/1831. Her father had died by the time of the 1832 slave register, leaving Evina as the only known heir to his 1/3 share of Waterloo estate in St Vincent.
Living on North Street, Elgin, age 10 in the census of 1841, in the household of Catherine McKenzie, age 65, of independent means, with Elizabeth B. McKenzie age 35, Catherine Sutherland age 11 and 3 female servants. Presumably Catherine, age 11, was a sister and another heir of Ewen Baillie Sutherland, but her baptism has not been found.
