A. and D. Bannatyne were writers [to the signet] in Glasgow who represented the firm of J. T. and A. Douglas of Glasgow in an attempt to broker a deal over the compensation for Hope estate in British Guiana.

Dugald John Bannatyne was born 29/11/1805 in Glasgow, the son of Dugald Bannatyne and his wife Anges née Stirling. He married Janet Bogle and they had 8 children born in Glasgow between 1834 and 1845. At the time of the 1851 census he was a visitor at Morley's House, Charing Cross, London, age 45, "Solicitor in Practice", born Scotland. He died at 214 Bath Street, Glasgow, 27/12/1863 age 55. Dugald's brother was Andrew Bannatyne (q.v.).
