Biography

Partner in Manning & Anderdon (q.v.) between 1816 and 1854, son of John Proctor Anderdon (q.v.) and brother of James Hughes Anderdon (q.v.). Manning & Anderdon failed in 1831 and the compensation for the enslaved people owned by the partnership was paid to assignees in bankruptcy or to creditors such as the banking firm of Smith Payne & Smith (q.v.).

  1. Administration of John Lavicount Anderdon formerly of Devonshire Terrace Hyde Park but late of Chislehurst Kent, who died 08/03/1874 granted 23/05/1874 to widow Anna Maria (the daughter of William Manning MP and sister of Cardinal Manning), effects under £800. Anna Maria in turn left under £18,000 when administration was granted to her daughter in 1880.

  2. A visitor at 19a Waterloo Street, Hove, Sussex, at the house of Cecilia Hall [Halt?]. Living at 1 Church Row, Chis[t]lehurst, Kent, in the census of 1861, age 69, Gentleman, with his wife Anna age 64, 2 daughters and 3 female servants. Living with his son John E. Anderdon and his family at Henlade House, Ruishton, Somerset, in the census of 1871.
