Son of Samuel Sandbach (1769-1851) (q.v.), and his wife Eliza, daughter of Rev Dr Henry Robertson of Kiltearn. Awarded compensation in British Guiana as partner in Sandbach Tinne.
Married (1) Margaret Roscoe 04/05/1832 (2) Elizabeth Charlotte Williams, daughter of Martin Williams (1782-1856, son of Martin Williams and Elizabeth Barrett Waite) of Old Hope Westmoreland Jamaica and Bryngwyn Q4 1855. In 1841 census living aged 30 at Aigburth with Margaret aged 25. Shown as of Hafodunos Denbighshire on his death 10/06/1895 when he left £10,515 15s 10d.
Henry Robertson Sandbach's first wife, Margaret Roscoe, is in the ODNB as poet and novelist. She was a member of a prominent Unitarian family in Liverpool and the grand-daughter of the historian and anti-slave trade MP William Roscoe (1753-1831).
Built Hafodunos in Denbighshire c. 1864. The ODNB entry for the sculptor John Gibson notes the importance of the patronage of Henry Robertson Sandbach and his wife Margaret Roscoe in Gibson's career. The family sold the house in the early 1930s but continue to farm part of the estate. The family includes the former Conservative MP Antoinette Sandbach.
