Research synopsis
My research interests are focused on the intersection between signalling and basic metabolism. My PhD focused on physiology and cardiometabolic changes due to acute and/or chronic stress and I have also led the research at LABEEST (Laboratory of Stress Study) into the evaluation of stress indicators in humans at Unicamp. In the Saiardi lab, I investigate the role played by inorganic polyphosphates (polyP) in mammalian cells. PolyP is a ubiquitous polymer of tens to hundreds of orthophosphate residues linked by high-energy phosphoanhydride bonds which have been found in all forms of life, from bacteria to animals. Whilst in prokaryotes and lower eukaryotes the presence of polyP and its synthesis are well-documented, in mammals, polyP is more elusive. My work focuses on increasing our knowledge of polyP including identifying its presence in mammals and understanding its production.
