Indentures of 26 and 27/12/1806 between Butler Claxton [III] of Nevis son and heir of Butler Claxton [II] showed the mortgage by Butler Claxton III of North Wales estate (identified as the property of Butler Claxton II and heretofore of the Rev. Robert Pemberton) and Williams estates (identified as the property of Mrs Elizabeth Pemberton formerly Williams late wife of Robert Pemberton, and Mrs Frances Jones, widow) to Protheroes and Claxton of Bristol, together with the 48 and 38 enslaved people attached to the respective estates, to secure the £5151 owed by Butler Claxton II to Protheroes and Claxton together with 'a considerable sum' owed by Butler Claxton & Son.
