Biography

One of a group of Shaws who lodged a counterclaim against their brother Alexander Hamilton Shaw, as devisees of their mother Harriet Shaw née Campbell. Sarah or Sally Shaw is listed as a counterclaimant and named as a devisee but does not appear in the same group of awardees, so presumed to be a beneficiary. Daughter of Dr David Shaw and Harriet Campbell, sister of Fanny Shaw, Rev. John Campbell Shaw, Alexander Hamilton Shaw and Elizabeth Brodie née Shaw (all q.v.).

  1. Elizabeth's mother Henrietta Campbell died aged 63 at Bishop's Mount Jamaica in October 1832. Her burial record identifies her as "Quadroon".

  2. Miss Sarah Shaw, daughter of the late David Shaw of Jamaica, died at 73 Cumberland Street, Edinburgh, 01/07/1835.
