Biography

Partner with John Robley (q.v.), with whose heirs there was litigation over partnership shares. Brooke died in 1833 and his executors, including his sister Elizabeth Brooke (q.v.), were awarded a share of the compensation for three estates on St Vincent and one on Tobago: the heirs of John Robley were awarded the remainder.  MP for Chippenham 1802-1803 and 1812-1818 and for Ilchester 1803-1806.

  1. Will of Charles Brooke of Sambrook Court proved 01/10/1833. His executors were his partner Charles Webb of Balham, his sister Elizabeth Brooke of Chipping Norton, Henry James Brooke of Stockwell and William Robertson Webb of Sambrook Court. He left his estate equally to his three sisters Elizabeth, Maria and Isabella Frances Brooke, after monetary legacies of £3600 to the executors and three other individuals, and a year's wages to his servants. Isabella Frances Brooke (who had married a Thomas Brooke, presumably a cousin) died at Bath in 1847 and in her will referred to property she held in St Vincent and Tobago.

  2. His father was Henry Francis Brooke, merchant, of Bristol and Henbury Hill House, Glos.; his mother was Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Robertson, merchant, of London. Family background in Bristol mercantile world; subsequently Brooke's business interests included London Spanish wool trade, connecting with West of England clothiers. Also later engaged in business with his brother Henry in H. F. Brooke & Company, Spanish merchants and Brooke, Struth & Company, West India merchants.
