Eldest son and heir of Rowland Duer senior (d. 1791) of Big Duers, Antigua. Great-great grandson of the first Duer who moved from Barbados to Antigua in 1680. Matriculated New College, Oxford, 22/02/1787 age 19. Died c. 1795. The compensation claim for Big Duers was contested by Rowland Duer's sisters Theodora and Elizabeth, 'for portions under a deed of settlement of £2500 and also an annuity to them respectively of £50 under the will of John (amended to Rowland) Duer the younger, the said annuities with interest on the portions are in arrear from 05/04/1831'.
T71/877 Antigua claim no. 343 (Big Duers). T71/1221: affidavit of Sir George Henry Rose, nephew of the late Rev. Rowland Duer, late of Chichester. The affidavit was sworn on 26/04/1837 by Sir G. H. Rose, of Old Palace Yard, Knight Grand Cross of the royal Hanoverian. States that George Henry Rose was acquainted with the said Rowland Duer and with his family since Rowland Duer's death. Rowland Duer had departed this life many years since, leaving a widow ('who is since dead') and five children and no more him surviving, namely Rowland Duer esq. (his eldest son and heir at law), John Duer (his younger son) - both since deceased - and Elizabeth and Theodora Duer, both now residing at Chichester (the aforesaid spinster and counterclaimants to the above claim), and Mary Cresswell, a widow. Rowland Duer (the son) died c. 1795; John Duer died c. 1828. Neither Elizabeth nor Theodora ever married.

Mitton dau. of my late uncle Edward Duer Esq. and annuity of £50, payable out of my plantation in Antigua. Sisters Eliz. D., Mary D., and Theodora D. each an annuity of £50 after the death of my Mother or so soon as my own and my Father’s creditors shall have been paid. All real est. in A. and Gt B. to my friends Tudor Griffiths, John Caldecott and John Drew of Chichr to carry out trusts as to my real estate in A. comprised in an Ind. of lease and release dated 21 and 22 March 1792 the release being tripartite between myself of the 1st pt, said Tudor Griffiths, John Caldecott and John Drew of the 2d pt and my and my father’s creditors of the 3rd pt which est. is in trust for my brother John Duer, they to be Ex’ors. Cod., 14 March 1794. John Caldecott being dead I appoint John Peachey of Chichester, Esq. a T., etc. Proved 22 April 1796 by Tudor Griffiths and John Drew Esqres.
