Duncan Campbell of Alfred Place, Bedford Square

Son of Duncan Campbell of St Martin in the Fields (q.v.), nephew of Duncan Campbell of Bedford Square (q.v.) and brother of John Campbell of Budleigh Salterton and Dugald Campbell (each of whom q.v.). Partner with his uncle Duncan Campbell of Bedford Square and Alexander Baillie, and then after his uncle's death partner in Campbell, Harper and Baillie. The latter firm failed in 1819.

1. Duncan Campbell of Alfred Place, Bedford Square appears to have been detained in the Fleet prison in May 1827; in 1829 the cause of Campbell v Raynsford was reported in which he seemed to have engineered his own release and to have appeared unexpectedly before the Chancery Court.

2. Probably the Duncan Campbell aged 76 living in 1851 at Adpar, Cardiganshire 'Fundholder and colonial land' born Middlesex, with his (second) wife Elizabeth aged 37 and a daughter aged 2. This man died 22/04/1858 leaving £4000.

3. In the will of William Campbell made in 1844 when he was of [Middlesex Place New Road] St Marylebone, proved in Madras in 1845 and in London 09/07/1846, he said that in 1842 he had purchased an estate in Hanover from Samuel Barrett Hylton as trustee for his father Duncan Campbell, to whom he left the estate.
