Biography

Counterclaimed on his own behalf and on behalf of (his brother) Duncan Campbell of Alfred Place Bedford Square (q.v.) for the compensation for the enslaved people on the Saltspring estate in Hanover, Jamaica, which had belonged to their brother Dugald Campbell (whose will they proved in 1818). The three men were the sons of Duncan Campbell of St Martin-in-the-Fields (q.v.), who had died c.1803.

  1. The will of John Campbell of Budleigh Salterton Devon was proved 04/08/1841. The will refers to his brother Duncan Campbell but not explicitly to property in Jamaica.
