John Julius

1. Will of John Julius [late of the parish of St Mary Cayon on the island of St Christopher but now residing in Laura Place in the parish] of Bathwick, City of Bath, proved 08/12/1813 . In the will he left his wife an annuity of £400 p.a. secured on his property in St Kitts, even though [he said] his estate called The Hope was not otherwise subject to dower as it was bought in trust. He left £5000 to his daughter Elizabeth Mary, the wife of Jedediah Kerie, formerly of St Kitts but then also residing at Bath, and £5000 in trust for his daughter Ann Mary Wharton Estridge, wife of Aretas Estridge of St Kitts. He left an annuity of £20 p.a. to 'my mulatto woman slave Fanny.' He identified the Mansion estate as having belonged to his deceased brother William Julius, which he [John Julius] had bought subject to an annuity of £300 p.a. secured on it for William's widow Jane Smith Julius; and he said that he had some years since bought from the heirs of James Akers an estate known as the Gregory estate but 'since altered by me' and known as the Key estate: William McMahon's 1828 map of St Christopher identifies Key Estate as lying in the Parish of St Mary, Cayon, St Christopher, owned by John Swindell (q.v.), no estate under the name of Gregory on St Kitts has yet been identified.

This website gives John Julius (born St Kitts 21/01/1733/4, died Laura Place, Bathwick, Somerset 18/11/1813) as the son of William Julius of Basseterre (1695-1752) and his wife Frances (Anne) Mary nee Charles (1700-1737). He married Mary Wharton 07/11/1759 in St George Basseterre, St Kitts. They had six children together. John Julius had a reputed daughter, Frances, baptised 14/12/1766 in Christ Church, Nichola Town, St Kitts, aged about 10 years, 'a mull:'. A full transciption of his will is available at this site.
