Frances, the daughter of Elizabeth Freeman Ripley, a free quadroon woman, by Ebenezer Eddie, was born 29/08/1787 and baptised 11/05/1788 in Kingston, Jamaica. Inherited a house in Orange Street, Kingston, the life interest in a quarter share in Hermitage estate in St Andrew, and the life interest in a half share in Tower Hill in St Andrew, on the death of her mother between 1826 and 1829. Hermitage was sold within a few years of her mother's death. After the death of Frances, her life interest was to be inherited by her children James Hammond, Elizabeth Hammond and Frances [sic - Francis] Groom.
James Hammond, son of Frances Edie, a free quadroon by James Hammond, born 10/02/1809 and baptised 08/06/1809 in Kingston. Eliza Hammond, daughter of Frances Edie a free quadroon by William Hammond, born 02/01/1811 and baptised 20/04/1811 in Kingston. Jane Hammond, daughter of Frances Edie a free quadroon by James Hammond deceased, born 06/02/1813 and baptised 27/03/1813 in Kingston.
Francis Ripley Groom, born 23/03/1820, white by law, being the son of Frances Ripley Eadie, free mestee, baptised in St Catherine, 12/06/1820.
She appears in the compensation records as Frances Ripley Matheson. In 1832, Frances Ripley Edie registered 8 enslaved people in Port Royal as guardian to James Hammond, Elizabeth Hammond and F. R. Groom, recently removed from Kingston. The register was signed by Joseph Matheson. She registered a further 13 enslaved people in Port Royal as owner - 6 by removal from Kingston where they were previously registred by F. R. Edie as owner and 6 by removal from St Andrew where they were previously registered by Alex Edie as executor for E. F. Ripley.
