Francis Ripley Groom, born 23/03/1820, white by law, being the son of Frances Ripley Eadie [sic], "free mestee", baptised in St Catherine, 12/06/1820. Note that other sources give Frances Ripley Edie as "free quadroon"
His mother inherited a life interest in a quarter share in Hermitage estate in St Andrew and a half share in Tower Hill in St Andrew which was to be passed to Eliza Hammond, his half-sister Elizabeth Hammond and half-brother James Hammond on the death of their mother.
