James Hammond, son of Frances [Ripley] Edie, a free quadroon by James Hammond, born 10/02/1809 and baptised 08/06/1809 in Kingston. His mother inherited a life interest in a quarter share in Hermitage estate in St Andrew and a half share in Tower Hill in St Andrew which was to be passed to Eliza Hammond, his sister Elizabeth Hammond and half-brother Francis Ripley Groom on the death of their mother.
