Ward, 'The Profitability of Sugar Planting in the British West Indies, 1650-1834', Economic History Review, 31 (2) (May, 1978), pp. 197-213: states that the Grand Bras estate earned 4.6%, 1802-8 and 1811-13, earning £2107 per annum on 360 enslaved persons (versus £5-8,000 per annum, 15-19%, 1783-95, on 395/430 enslaved persons).
