James Dick and Robert Milligan were identified as his partners in James Dick & Co. and Alexander Forteath & Co. in the will of Alexander Fortieth made in 1779 and proved in 1786.

Member of the Baillie of Dochfour family. London and Bristol merchant and banker (Baillie, Ames & Baillie), major recipient of slave compensation across the Caribbean.

The Buff Bay plantation was a sugar estate next to the Buff Bay River, south of Charlestown in Jamaica. By 1839, the estate was 840 acres.
