NB There remains uncertainty about the identity of the 'James Nasmyth deceased', 'Richard Nasmyth', 'Robert Nasmyth' and 'James Nasmyth' who variously appear in the registrations for Water Valley between 1794 and 1807. Robert Nasmyth and James Nasmyth were identified as his brothers, one an advocate and the other a doctor in physick and both of Edinburgh, in the will of Thomas Nasmyth made in 1806 and proved in 1816. The estate passed to Mary Sarah Nasmyth, the widow of Thomas Nasmyth, as executor of her son Robert Nasmyth who predeceased her.
