David Hancock has compiled a list of plantations which were owned by Sir Alexander Grant using the Deed Books, Old Series in the Island Record Office. Charlemont was acquired between 1752-63, it comprised of 903 acres and 137 enslaved people were attached to the property. The estate was purchased for £5,000, the price having been converted from Jamaica island currency to English pounds by the author.
