James Bain's son Andrew Hudson Bain arrived in Cape Town on 1 July 1840. Although this was meant only to be a temporary stay, with Ceylon [Sri Lanka] apparently being his destination, he remained in South Africa for 54 years. He based himself in Grahamstown and became a well known traveller and hunter.
Andrew Hudson Bain died at Kimberley South Africa 17/07/1894. "BAIN--On July 17, at Kimberley, Andrew Hudson Bain, late of Bain's Vley, Orange Free State, eldest son of the late James Bain, of Belmont and Cape Sale, Island of Grenada, West Indies, aged 76."
