  1. A William Middleton (1776-1861) was a 'Havana merchant' of 144 St Vincent Street and 2 Blythswood Place, Glasgow (having been originally a partner with Hugh Tennent as a cotton manufacturer), and a 'West India merchant' in the 1851 census, who left £260,255.
