Biography

London West India merchant, father of Alexander George Milne jun. (q.v.), retiring in 1835 and dying at Eltham in 1849.

  1. Alexander George Milne, son of Alexander and Helen Milne, baptised at St Mary Aldermary, City of London, 23/01/1770. His mother Helen Milne nee Bartlet was the sister of Patrick Bartlet and James Bartlet (both q.v.).

  2. St Olave Hart Street 10 December 1799 baptism of 'Peter, a black servant to the above A.G. Milne'. The entry above is the baptism of Alexander George Milne junior, the child of A.G. Milne and his wife Margaret. It appears that their servant and child had been baptised at the same time.

  3. Mary Jane Milne, yngs dau. A.G. Milne Eltham m. Rev J. Congon Shapley Carricou Grenada, Eltham, Kent 13 June 1844.

  4. Will of Alexander George Milne of Eltham Kent proved 30/05/1849. His executors were his sons Alexander George Milne jun. and the Rev. Robert Matthew Milne, and James William Freshfield the younger. He made a series of monetary legacies of several hundred pounds each to relatives, and of £2-3,000 each to his daughters. He left his estates of Brunswick and Prospect Hall on Carriacou to his son Alexander George Milne junior.

NB a number of the claims under Alexander George Milne jun. (q.v.) might be attributable to his father, this Alexander George Milne senior, by virtue of his marriage to Dorothea Span nee Munro (q.v.).
