Rt Hon Archibald Lord Douglas of Douglas

1773 - 1844

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Unsuccessful counterclaimant as assignee of an annuity of £500 p.a on the Fair Prospect estate in St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica [and the enslaved people attached to it], the compensation for whom was paid to Divie Robertson and John Gladstone (each of whom q.v.). The origins of the assignment underpinning his claim have not yet been established. It is possible that it relates to the annuity of £500 p.a. left under the will of James Jones of Great Baddow (q.v.) (the son-in-law of Edward Bullock of Kingston, an earlier owner of Fair Prospect) to his daughter Lucy Ann Finlay nee Jones.

  1. Son and heir of Archibald James Edward Douglas (formerly Stewart), whose claim to the title and estates of Douglas had been highly contested in the late 18thC.
