Henry Russell

???? - 1813

Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica. Owner of Caen Wood in St George and possibly the same man associated with Harmony Hall in Portland.

  1. 'On the passage from Bristol to Jamaica, Mr H. Russell, proprietor of Caen Wood estate St George's parish, Jamaica. Standing by the cabin window he was thrown out by the sudden rolling of the vessel; every assistance was afforded, and the ship's boat lowered, but the numerous sharks abounding in that latitude were observed contending on the spot where he fell and a long track of his blood marked the furrows of the waves!'
