Edward Knowles of Hanover

Biography

  1. Apparently resident slave-owner in Jamaica and probably the man buried at Hanover in 1785.

  2. Edward Knowles was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 612 acres of land in Hanover.

  3. Elizabeth Knowles, a free woman of colour, the reputed daughter of Edward Knowles esq of the parish of Trelawny and of Sabina a sable woman formerly belonging to Phoenix Estate in Hanover, was baptised at Phoenix Estate about the year 1760 but no certificate having been given she was baptised again on 28/01/1816 at her own house in Savanna la Mar.
