Thomas McCornock

???? - 1848

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Originally of Dumfries, resident manager on Golden Grove and the awardee of a number small claims in his own name as well as co-awardee of a larger claim as one of the Directors of the Bath of St Thomas the Apostle, all in St Thomas-in-the-East. His suicide in 1848 was a symptom of the pressure on the West Indian sugar-economy following the equalisation of sugar duties from 1846, which of course primarily drove down the living standards of the formerly enslaved Africans.
