9th May 1791 - 30th Apr 1849
Irish MP and barrister, awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Pembroke estate in Tobago. He and Andrew Henry Lynch (q.v.), both returned as MPs for the Town of Galway in January 1833 (but in Maclachlan's case unseated on petition), were assignees of a mortgage alongside James Campbell, probably as executors and beneficiaries of the will of Lt General James Campbell, the uncle of Lachlan MacLachlan, who died in 1820.
Born 09/05/1791 and baptised 12/05/1791, son of Robert MacLachlan of Fiorline (d. 1823) and his wife Mary nee Campbell (1759-1809). Died 30/04/1849 in Co. Galway, Ireland.
Will of Lachlan Maclachlan of Galway Ireland proved 19/6/1849.
James Campbell, Andrew Henry Lynch and Lachlan MacLachlan were the executors of Lieutenant-General James Campbell of New Cavendish Street, Portland Place, whose will was proved 22/02/1820. The will describes Lachlan MacLachlan as the nephew and James Campbell as the grand-nephew of Lieutenant-General James Campbell; both were beneficiaries under the will, which does not specify the Tobago mortgage.
Tobago no. 55. Counterclaim by Andrew Henry Lynch of Lincolns Inn, Lachlan Maclachlan and James Campbell of 12 New Cavendish St, Portland Place, mortgagees for £18000 [T71/1304 from 1798 mortgage of John Petrie, Dugald Campbell and James Robertson, assigned to James Campbell and then to the counterclaimants].
