Biography

Given as F. Y. Checkley in the compensation records (and under variants such as F.Y. Chickley or Francis Yelveston Checkley in the Slave Registers), claimed unsuccessfully as owner-in-fee of Mount Parnassus on Grenada (the compensation was awarded to the London merchants Davidsons and Barkly), but awarded the comepnsation for the enslaved people under two other smaller awards on Grenada. Francis Yelverton Checkley was shown as the acting Governor of Grenada in 1845-6 and 1855-6 and as President at various points down to 1866.
