Installed by Larne and District Historical Society, as one of a series forming a heritage trail in the town. 'Exceedingly successful' in Demerara where Charles and his brothers John and William had gone 'to seek their fortune in the sugar industry'. 'In common with many liberal benefactors of his era, McGarel used his large fortune to the benefit of his home town.'
