By his own account given in his will, Nathaniel Elliot had built up the Longbrook estate at West Alvington through the purchase of the original estate from the executors of Jame Worden and a second purchase of adjoining lands called Sulham [?] and Floodgates from John Pollixfen Bastard.

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.
