Succeeded his father, Edward Hyde East (q.v.), at Winchester. Defeated in the 1832 election. Accepted Chiltern Hundreds in 1864. Described (Oxford DNB) as a Liberal Conservative.
Not a frequent speaker, though he did speak on the questions of dog carts (9 June 1841, 15 and 22 March 1843)
